RULES & GOVERNANCE

Vendor Rules & Regulations

All vendors at the Snohomish Farmers Market must adhere to our strict guidelines to ensure quality, safety, and a positive experience for all. We follow Washington State Farmers Market Association regulations, permitting only handmade, homegrown, and locally produced items. Vendors are expected to maintain a professional, courteous demeanor, comply with health and safety standards, and uphold market policies regarding setup, product display, and cleanup. Full details can be found in our Vendor Handbook, which outlines all rules and expectations for participation.

Additional Information:

The City of Snohomish does not allow vendors or solicitors to set up outside the legal market boundaries without a permit. Unpermitted vendors will be shut down by the City. If you have questions or special requests, please check in with market staff at the Market Info Tent.

Requests to stand within the market footprint and engage with market shoppers are approved on a case-by-case basis. These include signature gathering, leaflet distribution, or handing out information regarding upcoming elections or community events. Please check with our staff at the Market Info Tent before engaging in these activities and note the following guidelines:

  • No amplified sound (megaphones or speakers).

  • No standing, leafletting, or signature gathering inside the market perimeter.

  • Please direct this activity to an area outside the market that does not block entrances, exits, or access to the market.

  • No blocking or interfering with vendor booths, market operations, or safety logistics. Remember, the farmers markets are spaces where local farms and food artisans make their living and connect with customers who want to support local, sustainable agriculture and local food. Activities that interfere with this mission are directly impacting the farms and food businesses who depend on the markets for their livelihood.

  • No tables, equipment, or signage can be set up in the public right-of-way. Tables set up on public sidewalks generally require a City permit.

  • The City does not permit entities to “barnacle” on to the markets – each market layout is permitted for market activities only. The markets cannot extend beyond the permitted boundaries of the market.

SFM follows free speech guidelines for protected and unprotected speech. Unprotected speech, such as obscenity, incitement, fighting words, threats, or criminal conduct will not be tolerated.

Organization Bylaws

Our Vendor Bylaws are designed to support the fair and efficient operation of the Snohomish Farmers Market. These bylaws outline the responsibilities and rights of our vendors, ensuring that our market operates smoothly and in alignment with our mission.

Strategic Boundaries & Guardrails

The board has affirmed the following strategic guardrails that guide all major decisions, especially when tradeoffs arise:

  • Farmers and food producers remain the central focus of the market

  • Vendor sustainability and fairness must be protected

  • Experience over consumerism—the market prioritizes connection, education, and culture rather than transactional growth

  • Equity, accessibility, and community impact are non-negotiable values

  • The market fosters a welcoming, respectful environment that reflects the diversity of our community while maintaining clear standards that protect the integrity and purpose of the market.

Any initiative, partnership, or program that compromises these principles requires deeper scrutiny or reconsideration.
